Our course center is perfectly located in the Lofoten Islands, home to some of Norway’s most dynamic tidal currents. With streams reaching speeds of 4-6 knots in areas like Moskenesstraumen, Nappstraumen, and Gimsøystraumen, the region offers powerful flows, eddies, and tide races—ideal for tidal paddling. Additionally, the area features smaller, gentle tidal channels that provide a safe and controlled environment, perfect for practicing and developing essential skills. For those seeking a challenge, we also offer a multi day expedition that includes crossing Moskenesstraumen, one of the biggest tidal ocean currents in the world.

This 2-day advanced tidal course is designed for experienced paddlers ready to refine their skills and gain confidence in faster and bigger flowing tidal waters and more dynamic conditions.

During the course, we will cover advanced theory, including navigation techniques using vectors to plan and manage complex crossings. Further building on foundational tidal paddling techniques, we will then focus on practical skills such as ferry gliding in stronger currents, navigating eddy lines, surfing standing waves, Eskimo rolling in the current, and maintaining control in turbulent waters. You’ll also practice advanced rescue techniques and self-recovery methods tailored to challenging tidal environments.

By the end of the course, you’ll have the skills and confidence to paddle safely and effectively in challenging tidal environments, preparing you for demanding trips and expeditions in dynamic coastal waters.
